Cultural Stewardship, Shared Humanity & Intellectual Property Statement
We honor particular roots without fencing in humanity.
This statement describes how Maturity.Coach approaches cultural stewardship, shared humanity, and intellectual-property boundaries for Ubuntu Roots Coaching™.
On this page
What we steward and what we do not own
Ubuntu Roots Coaching™ is a proprietary coaching methodology. Ubuntu itself is not proprietary. The human values of dignity, interdependence, belonging, responsibility, reciprocity, and care belong to our shared humanity and are lived, interpreted, and renewed in many communities throughout the world.
What we steward
Maturity.Coach stewards Ubuntu Roots Coaching™ as a proprietary coaching methodology. The methodology’s structure, original coaching questions, exercises, curriculum, facilitation methods, research synthesis, writing, instructional design, learning resources, and visual identity are proprietary to Maturity.Coach.
In Ubuntu Roots Coaching™, “Roots” refers to personal grounding, memory, relationship, and responsibility. It does not claim ownership of Ubuntu’s origins, meanings, or cultural inheritance.
What we do not own
Ubuntu has particular African roots and living expressions. Its call to dignity, reciprocity, belonging, and shared responsibility is a gift to our collective humanity—not a possession of any brand.
Ubuntu as a philosophical tradition belongs to the communities from which it emerged and to all who inherit and live those values. No commercial entity, including us, can claim ownership over Ubuntu itself.
The traditions that may inform or inspire these dimensions are not proprietary.
Personal heritage, shared responsibility
Descriptions of heritage on this page reflect the founder’s personal and familial experience, not an authoritative account of Sawa communities.
Founder reflection — pending written approval.
Sawa heritage is a living inheritance carried by Sawa communities and families. Personal ancestry does not give any individual or organization the right to commercialize, define, or speak for that inheritance.
By collective humanity, we mean the shared dignity and mutual responsibility that connect people across difference—without erasing the particular communities, histories, languages, and places from which wisdom traditions arise.
Dimension-by-dimension provenance
Ubuntu Roots Coaching™ is organized around five original dimensions. The coaching focus of each is described by Maturity.Coach. The cultural inspiration for each dimension is shown with its current review status and must not be read as verified attribution.
| Dimension | Coaching application (methodology) | Cultural inspiration — review status |
|---|---|---|
| Remembrance | Reflection on personal lineage, formative stories, inherited assumptions, memory, and the responsibilities created by one’s past. | Partially drafted — pending qualified source verification and appropriate review. |
| Belonging | Examination of relationship, interdependence, mutual recognition, community responsibility, and conditions that allow people to belong without losing dignity. | Partially drafted — pending qualified source verification and appropriate review. |
| Becoming | Development, identity, possibility, discernment, and the evolving practice of mature leadership. | Attribution in progress — do not treat as verified cultural attribution. |
| Reciprocity | Mutual obligation, ethical exchange, accountability, benefit-sharing, and relationship beyond transaction. | Attribution in progress — do not treat as verified cultural attribution. |
| Legacy | Intergenerational responsibility, contribution, continuity, repair, and the impact leaders leave for those who follow. | Attribution in progress — do not treat as verified cultural attribution. |
Cultural authority and voice
We speak for our coaching methodology; we do not speak for the traditions themselves.
The aspiration to recognize one another’s dignity belongs to no single institution. It is work we share as human beings.
Reciprocity and benefit-sharing
Commitments in finalization.
Specific revenue percentages, beneficiary organizations, advisory-council structure, and eligibility criteria must be defined, documented, and publicly posted before this policy is presented as complete.
We are developing our commitments on reciprocity and benefit-sharing. We intend to establish an advisory approach, benefit-sharing principles, and community-investment commitments, and to publish their structure, decision authority, and eligibility criteria once they are defined and documented.
Feedback, corrections, and concerns are welcome through our partnership and contact page. Once that inquiry form is connected to a submission service, submissions will be acknowledged and logged, and a standing summary of received concerns and their resolution status will be maintained in the public change log below.
Trademark use guidelines
Ubuntu Roots Coaching™ is used as a common-law (unregistered) trademark asserted by Maturity.Coach. No trademark registration is claimed, and no registered status is stated or implied.
Detailed trademark-use guidelines — pending legal review.
